Spomenik

All across the countries which made up the former Yugoslavia sit great 'spomenik' - the serbo-croatian word for monument - to the fallen partisans of world war two. They are mostly forgotten now due to the more recent nationalistic views and violence which took hold in the region 20 years ago. These great monuments of unity (enforced or genuine depending on your view) are virtually all abandoned, and many defaced - but their sheer architectural presence and bold futuristic vision still posses a magnificent power to enchant and amaze those who happen to chance upon them.
